Have you ever had a friend that only calls you to complain? Do you have a friend that only calls you when they need a favor or to gossip about what this one said or what that one did? Do you cringe when you see their name pop up on the caller idea? First of all, these are not friends, but that’s another story… (Stay tuned in, for next post) But, I begin to name my associates, accordingly, on my iPhone – so that, when they do call, I would become more aware of the situation that may occur “if” and when I answered the phone.
Their situation never changed, over the years, and I had come to the conclusion, that “if they can’t change, I can.” For example:
(All Names Have Been Changed To Protect The Guilty Innocent): Joe’s name was changed to “My Girlfriend’s Cheating”; Sara’s name became: “Nobody Loves Me”; Lisa’s name became: “Can I Have Some Money?”; Don’s name became: “Can You Buy Me A Car?”; Carlton’s name became: “My Rent Is Due”; Terry’s name became: “I Can’t Find A Job”; and so on.. and so on…
Now, I know, to some… this may sound condescending, considering that I have given my life to share with those in times of despair; but there’s a big difference between a person who is in need and a person who is always needy. How is it, that my prayers are becoming answered and their situation remains the same? In fact, there was hardly ever a time, where these individuals lives changed due to our conversations. Just idle chatter?! Obviously, there is something, terribly wrong, with this picture.
